Network Marketing is a very unique industry, and one that more and more people are choosing in preference to a traditional job.
As much as this is an amazing industry, and with hundreds of thousands of people joining Network Marketing companies, there is also a large number of people who quit.
In this article I want to share my thoughts on how you can reduce the number of people who quit, and also offer some suggestions to help you deal with attrition in your team.
Attrition in Network Marketing
Attrition in Network Marketing is not something that anyone wants, but it is something that everyone will experience if they are in Network Marketing for the long term.
People quit everything! That’s just how it is. You have to come to terms with this if you are going to keep moving forward in your business.
If you have been in Network Marketing for a reasonable length of time, you will probably have already experienced attrition. Everyone does! Some people may lose dozens of people, and I have heard top earners talk about losing hundreds of thousands of people!
Does this mean Network Marketing doesn’t work?
Does this mean You should throw in the towel too?
NO! It is just what happens. Be OK with it, and just keep bringing new people into your team.
I know it is incredibly frustrating to lose team members, but being able to work through these frustrating times is what is going to make you successful.
For all the people who quit, there will be a larger percentage of people who will stay.
If someone is in for a year, they are likely to still be there in two years. If people stay for two years, they are likely going to be there in four years.
There will always be new people who will join, and you just have to keep recruiting, and moving forward with your business.
This is a very tough industry, and you have to look at the long game. People will quit along the way, and that is just the nature of the beast.
How to reduce your attrition rate
You will never get your attrition rate down to zero, but I firmly believe that there are things you can do to reduce it dramatically.
One of the best things you can do for your business, and your team members is, to manage their expectations.
I believe that many people quit because their expectations were not managed from the time they were brought into your team. People get lied to when they are joining, and they are told things that are completely unrealistic.
You need to tell people the absolute truth, and give them an accurate picture of what is going to be involved in building a Network Marketing team.
Network Marketing is hard! Don’t tell people they will make money while they sleep, and they don’t have to do much at all to make this happen.
Let them know that many, many people will not want to join.
Let them know that many people will try to tell them they have just made a huge mistake by being involved with Network Marketing, and help them manage this negativity, and ignorance from other people.
Tell them that they will have to work hard, but if they do, the rewards will be worth it.
Don’t tell people that they can build a huge empire with just 30 minutes work per day, this is just not true.
I want to be clear here, I am not suggesting that you paint a picture of doom and gloom for them, but I am saying just be honest with them, and give them a realistic idea of what is actually involved.
Be excited when you talk to them about joining, and help create this excitement within them too, but be honest.
You can then back this up by assuring them that you will do everything you can to help them along the way, until they develop their own independence.
Train people properly
When someone joins a Network Marketing company, they should be shown the training that is provided by the company, and they should be advised to follow this training.
After this, it is your responsibility to give them help and guidance with how they market and promote themselves, and their business. Many people who join a Network Marketing company have never been in business before, and if they are left to their own devices to work everything out, they are going to make a lot of mistakes.
This will lead to them believing that Network Marketing doesn’t work, and they will very quickly start to question whether they have just made a huge mistake by joining your company. They will feel lost, and inadequate, and they will quit.
Guide people correctly, and give them the best advice that will help them. Encourage them to educate themselves by reading, attending training events, doing things that help them develop personally, and give them the help they require in order to build their confidence.
There is a saying in this industry, The way YOU bring someone into the business, is the way THEY will bring people into the business!.
The more you do to set people up correctly, the more chance you have of these people remaining on your team.
Attrition will always occur to some extent, but don’t let this stop you from what you are doing, and where you want to get to.
The more you accept that attrition is just part of the game, and the more you do to manage your team professionally, the more chance you have of being incredibly successful in spite of this.
